A New Chapter for GreenPoint Rated

After nearly two decades of building, growing, and operating GreenPoint Rated (GPR), Build It Green is excited to announce that the program will be transitioning to Habinex. This change will allow both GPR and Build It Green to thrive, evolve, and continue creating greater environmental impact in the built environment. Below are statements from Build It Green and Habinex about the transition and what’s next.ts in the built environment. The following are brief statements from Build It Green and Habinex regarding the transition and next steps.

Statement from Jeremy Madsen | Build It Green

In 2006, Build It Green launched GreenPoint Rated with a bold goal: to make residential green building mainstream in California. We developed GPR as an accessible, cost-effective rating system to help builders prove their homes met rigorous environmental standards. Since then, an incredible community of hundreds of building professionals has helped certify over 130,000 homes. Together, we have influenced local regulations, laid the foundation for statewide building codes, and made features like electrification, heat pumps, and energy-efficient appliances far more common.
In recent years, Build It Green’s focus has evolved from the nuts and bolts of better home construction to the broader community-scale context in which homebuilding happens. While our scope has shifted, we continue to see GPR as a vital driver of environmental progress in the built environment. We want to ensure that as Build It Green evolves, GPR can grow as well.
That is why we are excited to transition GPR to Habinex, a California Benefit Corporation led by Vaidehi Seth and Anish Kumar. They share our values and bring a rare mix of technology, construction, and finance expertise. Vaidehi, who serves on Build It Green’s board and is a certified Green Building Professional, knows the program well and understands its community. We are confident Habinex will both honor GPR’s history and advance it in new ways.
We are deeply proud of what GPR has become. With Habinex, the future of GPR is bright.

With gratitude,

Jeremy Madsen

Statement from Vaidehi Seth | Habinex

At Habinex, we are genuinely excited to guide GreenPoint Rated into its next chapter. As co-owners, Anish and I bring complementary, hands-on experience across real estate, construction, technology, and finance, giving us an end-to-end understanding of the building cycle and the people who make projects happen. That perspective keeps us grounded in day-to-day realities while we work toward our vision: healthy, inclusive, high-performing buildings that feel effortless to create, supported by tools and certifications that make greener, safer spaces simple, not stressful.
Some of you may know me from my role on Build It Green’s board of directors. Through BIG’s green building training and my work in health- and performance-focused development, I have developed a deep understanding of the technical principles and values that underpin GreenPoint Rated and a great appreciation for the community that has helped it thrive.
Our promise is straightforward: strengthen what is already trusted about GPR while introducing improvements such as clearer guidance, lighter paperwork, and better data at a pace that feels natural. Relationships, expertise, and service will remain at the program’s heart.
The building industry is changing quickly, with evolving codes, shifting legislation, and a complex landscape of incentives. Our goal is to provide you with the space, resources, and connections you need to navigate this with confidence.
We see a tremendous wave of talent, passion, and technology shaping the future of high-performance building. We believe that the future is bright, though still unfolding, and we are honored to play our role in shaping it.

Onward to the next chapter!
